AFP news agency reported that a tribal court in Kohistan district of Khyber Pakhunkhwa in Pakistan has handed down death penalty on six people, including four girls and two boys accused of dancing in a wedding party. According to the report, Jirga issued the sentence after a mobile phone video emerged of the six in a remote village.
There is more to Shariah than a few ignorant half educated cleric handing down hash and inhuman punishment to people who commit minor mistakes. I know that the western press always looking for stories like this to demean Islam and portray it as a savage and outdated relgion.
I have read the Quran many times and have not come accros any mention of a punishment for dancing. If the so called Muslim clerics punish people so severely for dancing. Many funny things are going on in the world today. Those who make or execute laws on people sometimes not suitable for the job. I once met a the Grand Kadi (Chief Judge) of a Shariah Court of Appeal whose only qualification is a BA degree in History which he obtained from a British university. What kind of judgement do you want such a person to pass on others.
